Why you should learn to fly
FASCINATION
Gliding combines high-tech and nature experience. Circling peacefully next to each other in the thermals with black storks or birds of prey is an unforgettable experience. Learning to understand the complex processes in our atmosphere is the prerequisite for unpowered gliding in order to seemingly overcome gravity using only the power of the sun. Good aerodynamic properties of the glider are the prerequisite for good flight performance. This can also be achieved by using the most modern materials such as Kevlar and carbon fibers. A modern glider is pure high-tech!
TEAMSPORT
Gliding is a team sport. You may sit alone or with two people in the cockpit, but you need a whole team to get into the air. Without a flight director, tow pilot or winch driver, flight instructor and numerous helpers on the ground, no one can get into the air. Relying on each other and supporting each other is an experience that has a special significance and strengthens the community, especially in times when there are ever-widening options for individual sports.
LEARNING EFFECT
Gliding broadens your horizons. Whether you are a student, a university teacher, an entrepreneur, a car mechanic, a pensioner, a student, a housewife or a doctor, among glider pilots it is not about who is supposedly more successful and drives the most expensive car. It's always about a shared hobby in which we support each other. As a young person, you have the chance to get to know people you might never have met otherwise. Looking beyond your own horizon is an enrichment!
INEXPENSIVE
Gliding in a club is not expensive. The costs remain manageable because the club members work on a voluntary basis and because the entire training is carried out on a voluntary basis. In football clubs, for example, it is common for trainers to be paid. The greenkeeper on the golf course is also paid for his work. Things are completely different in gliding clubs. Regardless of whether it is a flight instructor, flight manager or workshop manager, no one gets a cent for the work done. This makes a supposedly elitist hobby affordable; a glider license is even significantly cheaper than a car driving license.
